Atiku Slams APC Governors Over Alleged Diversion of Public Funds for 2027 Campaigns

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the APC and its state governors of diverting public money to fund political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released Tuesday by his media aide Paul Ibe, Atiku claimed the Tinubu administration is working with APC governors to channel funds meant for governance into “dedicated accounts” for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Atiku said resources that should be used for public welfare and development are being redirected for political mobilization. He argued that this is worsening Nigeria’s economic hardship, insecurity, and poverty.

“The Tinubu-led APC administration is in cahoots with APC governors to divert your resources to dedicated accounts for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign,” the statement read.

He also linked recent disagreements within the Progressive Governors’ Forum to disputes over access to and control of the alleged diverted funds.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) described the alleged diversion as “shameless, cruel, and criminal,” especially as millions of Nigerians face rising poverty and hunger under current economic policies.

ActionAid Nigeria went further, calling for the impeachment of any governor found guilty of using state resources for political campaigns ahead of 2027.

Reports recently surfaced about financial disputes within the APC Governors’ Forum over the handling of Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) funds and alleged political spending. The forum has denied any internal crisis, and no anti-corruption agency has announced a formal investigation yet.

Atiku allegations have reignited debate about transparency in public finance and the use of state resources for politics. With no official investigation announced yet, pressure is building on anti-corruption agencies and the APC to respond.
