Sources told DAILY POST that Wike finalized the decision after a high-stakes meeting with political stakeholders in Port Harcourt on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing Rivers State’s political climate and mapping strategies to lock down influence before 2027.

Notably present were ex-militant leaders Asari Dokubo andAteke Tom. Their attendance signals just how wide the consultations were before Wike’s endorsement.

“Wike’s endorsement of George is a strategic move to reassert control and shape the political future of Rivers State ahead of 2027,” a source who witnessed the meeting said.

Alabo George is no stranger to Rivers politics. The former Commissioner for Works is widely seen as a core Wike loyalist and a key figure in Wike’s political structure. His emergence suggests Wike wants a trusted ally to hold the reins in Rivers, even while serving as FCT Minister.

This endorsement drops amid the ongoing feud between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged godfather, Nyesom Wike. Since taking office, Fubara has moved to break free from Wike’s grip, sparking deep splits in the State House of Assembly and local government leadership.
