Wike Fires Back at Atiku and Obi Over Rivers LG Elections

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has responded to criticism from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi over the conduct of the council elections in Rivers State. Wike dismissed their comments, saying that the exercise had not been declared illegal by a court of law.

Wike took issue with Atiku’s description of the elections as unlawful, saying that Atiku lacked knowledge of the law. He pointed out that Atiku’s boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, had signed an emergency rule in 2004, giving the President the power to make regulations for the governance of emergency areas.

Wike also launched a scathing attack on Obi, questioning his moral right to speak about the conduct of elections. He pointed out that Obi had conducted local government elections during his tenure as Governor of Anambra State and therefore had no grounds to criticize the Rivers State elections.

Wike emphasized that the elections were legally conducted and commended by many for being free and fair. He insisted that the exercise had not been declared illegal by a court of law and therefore stood as a valid exercise of democratic principles.

The exchange between Wike, Atiku, and Obi highlights the intense political rivalry in Nigeria. While Atiku and Obi have expressed concerns about the conduct of the elections, Wike has defended the process, citing its legality and fairness.

What do you think about Wike’s response to Atiku and Obi’s criticism? Do you think the Rivers State elections were conducted fairly and legally?
