Sowore Accuses Peter Obi of Avoiding #FreeNnamdiKanuNow Protest

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has accused former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi of distancing himself from the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow campaign due to concerns about who is leading it. Sowore believes Obi’s decision not to participate in the protest stems from political calculation rather than principle.

According to Sowore, Obi’s people feel that joining the protest would be a “steal the show” situation, where they might overshadow others. However, Sowore emphasizes that when there’s injustice, one shouldn’t focus on who’s fighting for the cause, but rather the cause itself .

Sowore maintains that his advocacy for Nnamdi Kanu’s release is aimed at promoting justice and national healing. He believes Kanu’s detention is unjustifiable and that freeing him would help foster unity and reconciliation across the country.

Sowore dismisses allegations that his activism is politically motivated or influenced by prominent politicians like Atiku Abubakar, Goodluck Jonathan, or Peter Obi. He asserts that he has always fought for justice and democracy since his youth.

Sowore has reached out to several political leaders, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Abia State House of Assembly, urging them to push for Kanu’s release. He plans to continue advocating for justice and an end to what he describes as the persecution of Nnamdi Kanu .
