Rotimi Amaechi Sets Sights on 2027 Presidency, Rejects VP Slot
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has confirmed that he is running for president in the 2027 elections and has rejected the possibility of being a vice-presidential candidate. Amaechi’s decision comes after comments by Atiku Abubakar’s ally, Dele Momodu, suggested that Atiku might consider Amaechi as a potential running mate if Peter Obi declines to join him
Amaechi’s media aide, David Iyofor, stated that Amaechi is solely focused on his presidential ambition and will not consider any offers to be a running mate. Iyofor emphasized that Amaechi believes it is the turn of Southern Nigeria to produce the next president and is therefore seeking the ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)
Iyofor made it clear that Amaechi will not be part of any discussions for a vice-presidential slot, stating, “Amaechi is not seeking to be running mate to anybody. He does not intend to be a presidential running mate to anybody and will not.” This statement underscores Amaechi’s commitment to his presidential aspirations
Amaechi’s decision to run for president and reject the vice-presidential slot could have significant implications for the 2027 elections. As a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, Amaechi’s candidacy could attract significant support, particularly in the South-South region
