Reno Omokri Slams David Mark Over Real-Time Election Results Transmission

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has criticized former Senate President David Mark for joining the call for real-time transmission of election results. Omokri argues that no country, including Brazil and Estonia, has real-time transmission of results, and that Mark’s proposal is unrealistic.

Mark, chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), joined opposition leaders in calling for the cancellation of the recently signed electoral law allowing real-time transmission of results with manual tabulation as a backup. Omokri questions why Mark didn’t champion this cause when he was Senate President, suggesting it’s a convenient stance now that he’s out of power.

Omokri clarifies that electronic voting and transmission are feasible, but real-time transmission is not practiced anywhere. He cites examples of countries with robust systems, like the US, UK, and Germany, which don’t have real-time transmission. He also highlights cybersecurity concerns, pointing out that even advanced systems, like Amazon Web Services and military forces, have been hacked.

Omokri emphasizes that having party agents at polling units and signing form EC8A makes rigging impossible. He suggests opposition parties are seeking unrealistic amendments due to their own lack of organization.

Do you think real-time election results transmission is feasible in Nigeria? Should the focus be on strengthening electoral processes or pursuing ambitious technological solutions?
