Peter Obi’s Role in Opposition Coalition: A Clarification

The spokesman of the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolajia Abdullahi, has clarified that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has been part of the opposition coalition from its inception. Abdullahi made this statement on Channels Television’s Politics Today, dismissing claims that the coalition was set up to power Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition.

Abdullahi explained that Obi has attended almost every meeting of the coalition and has been an integral part of the group. However, Obi has not yet joined the ADC as a card-carrying member, as he requested leave to complete the election process in the Labour Party.

There have been speculations about Obi’s future plans, with some suggesting that he may return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to vie for its presidential ticket in 2027. However, Abdullahi’s statement suggests that Obi is committed to the opposition coalition and may still play a significant role in the group’s plans for the next election.

The opposition coalition’s plans for the 2027 elections are still unfolding, and Peter Obi’s role in the group remains to be seen. However, one thing is clear: the coalition is a significant development in Nigerian politics, and its impact on the country’s electoral landscape will be worth watching in the coming months.
