Former Power Minister Saleh Mamman Sentenced to 75 Years for N33.8B Fraud
A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power Saleh Mamman to 75 years in prison after convicting him on charges of fraud and money laundering involving N33.8 billion in public funds.
Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment, finding Mamman guilty on all 12 counts brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court sentenced Mamman to 7 years imprisonment on 10 counts.
For the remaining charges:
Count 4. 3 years imprisonment with an option of a N10 million fine
Count 5. 2 years imprisonment
Justice Omotosho ruled that the sentences would run consecutively, totaling 75 years behind bars.
Alongside the jail term, the court ordered the forfeiture of foreign currencies recovered from the former minister, as well as four other assets linked to the case.
The EFCC had prosecuted Mamman for alleged misappropriation of funds during his tenure as Minister of Power. The case is one of the highest-profile convictions for public fund theft in recent years.
The ruling marks a major win for anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria. If upheld on appeal, it could deter future abuse of public office and push for faster asset recovery.
