Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has thrown his weight behind Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, amid calls for his removal from office. In a recent post on X, Fani-Kayode described the media campaign against Matawalle as “shameless and nauseating,” attributing it to opposition elements seeking to undermine the minister’s efforts .
Fani-Kayode highlighted Matawalle’s exceptional loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and his commitment to the fight against terrorism. He credited the partnership between Matawalle and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu for the significant gains in counter-terrorism efforts, noting that more terrorists have been killed in the last two years than in the previous eight years combined.
The former minister expressed confidence in the new national security team, comprising General Christopher Musa, Ribadu, and Matawalle. He believes this team will make an even greater difference in the country’s security landscape .
Fani-Kayode urged Matawalle to remain focused and ignore attempts to discredit him. He described the minister as a “ruthless and courageous fighter” who has earned his respect over their 15-year friendship.
