EFCC Seeks Adjournment in Fraud Case Involving Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has requested an adjournment in the ongoing case against Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, and his co-defendants, citing the active 30-day window for previously issued summons.
During a recent court session at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, EFCC Counsel Jamiu Agoro informed Justice Maryann Anenih that the 30-day period from an earlier court order had not yet expired, making it premature to proceed with the case. As a result, the EFCC has proposed moving the case to November 27, 2024, for the next hearing, instead of the previously scheduled date of November 20.
Additionally, the EFCC granted administrative bail to the co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, while seeking more time for Yahaya Bello to appear in court.
The court granted the EFCC’s request for an adjournment, with all parties agreeing to reconvene later in the month to continue proceedings.
