APC Denies Pressuring Governors to Defect, Says Defections Reflect Party’s Strength
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations that it’s pressuring governors and lawmakers to defect from opposition parties. Felix Morka, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, stated that the defections are a legitimate exercise of constitutional rights, reflecting the party’s strength and appeal.
Morka emphasized that the decisions of members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join APC are in line with democratic principles. He argued that the opposition’s claims of intimidation and coercion are unfounded and misleading.
The APC spokesperson stressed that democracy is a system of freedoms, and people have the right to choose which party to join. “Would you have APC become a gatekeeper and decide who can or cannot come in?” Morka asked.
Morka suggested that opposition parties should focus on resolving their internal issues rather than accusing the ruling party of coercion. “If PDP, Labour, or ADC look inward, they will find that it’s their dysfunction and failure of leadership driving people away,” he said .
This development comes as more governors and lawmakers are expected to defect to APC ahead of the 2027 general election, according to Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule .
