NNPP Leader Kwankwaso Sets Conditions for Party Merger: “I Want Presidential or Vice-Presidential Ticket”
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), has set a high bar for any potential merger with another political party. According to Kwankwaso, he would only consider aligning with a party that offers him either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot in the 2027 elections .
Speaking at a Kwankwasiyya gathering at his residence in Kano, Kwankwaso made it clear that he is not interested in a merger that does not come with a prominent position. “At the national level, we are looking for a political party to align with,” he said. “But it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot .
Kwankwaso’s comments come amid speculations about the possible defection of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, Kwankwaso dismissed the reports, describing them as unrealistic. “That is nothing but a dream,” he said .

Kwankwaso’s conditions for a party merger have raised eyebrows in the political circles. While some have praised him for being bold and clear about his ambitions, others have criticized him for being too demanding. One thing is certain, however: Kwankwaso is not going to settle for anything less than a prominent position in any potential merger .
It remains to be seen which party will be willing to meet Kwankwaso’s conditions. Will he find a party that is willing to offer him the presidential or vice-presidential ticket, or will he continue to lead the NNPP? Only time will tell .
