Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke Defends Defection to Accord Party
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has explained why he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party. According to Adeleke, the move was necessary to protect his personal security and ensure the stability of the state. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Adeleke said he still holds the PDP in high regard but chose to prioritize continuity in Osun’s development .
Adeleke stated that he defected to the Accord Party to safeguard his personal security and the stability of the state. He emphasized that his decision was not driven by a lack of love for the PDP, but rather a desire to protect his achievements and continue the good work he has been doing in Osun State. Adeleke also expressed confidence that his performance in office would earn him a second term in the 2026 governorship election .
Adeleke dismissed concerns that contesting under a less popular party could affect his re-election chances. He believes that the people of Osun State are “wiser” and understand the difference between good governance and bad governance. According to Adeleke, the election would be decided by candidates, not political parties .
Adeleke highlighted his achievements as governor, including bringing hope and light to Osun State. He expressed confidence that his track record would speak for itself and that voters would return him to office due to his good governance and their desire for continuity .
Adeleke also stated that he is not worried about “federal might,” noting that he won the 2022 governorship election while in the opposition and expects to repeat that feat in 2026. He cited the example of President Bola Tinubu, who stood his ground while in opposition and won .
