Aiyedatiwa Secures Victorious Return as Ondo Governor
In a resounding electoral triumph, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been re-elected as the Governor of Ondo State, amassing an impressive 366,781 votes against his closest challenger, Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered just 117,845 votes. This decisive win, which saw Aiyedatiwa clear all 18 local government areas, was officially announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, at the INEC collation center in Akure.
The election, held peacefully with minimal disruptions, concluded a series of intense campaigns that spanned several months. Aiyedatiwa’s extensive outreach efforts within the state contributed significantly to his victory, as he pledged to enhance economic conditions and improve welfare for workers, highlighted by the implementation of a higher minimum wage.
Despite the successful outcome for the All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP has raised concerns about potential electoral malpractice, alleging vote-buying and compromises within the election process. Observers noted an unsettling trend of vote trading during the polls, prompting calls for election reform.
Having taken office previously under tragic circumstances following the passing of his predecessor, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Aiyedatiwa looks forward to continuing his governance with renewed focus. As he prepares to serve another term, he emphasizes his dedication to uplifting the oil-rich state of Ondo and ensuring better services for its residents.
