Tragedy Unfolds: Nigerian Woman Dies in Police Custody After Exposing Land Fraud

In a shocking and disturbing turn of events, Mrs. Uju Ezeobi, a Nigerian woman who courageously reported a multi-million naira land scam to the police, has allegedly died in police custody. The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the country, raising concerns about police brutality, corruption, and the lack of accountability.

According to reports, Mrs. Ezeobi had exposed a land scam perpetrated by Mrs. Nkiruka Duru, the president of the United Business Women Association. Duru had allegedly lured investors into purchasing land in Achala, assuring them that her organization had secured virgin plots for sale at competitive prices. However, instead of delivering the promised land, Duru diverted the funds for personal gain, leaving investors defrauded.

After multiple failed attempts to settle the matter amicably, Mrs. Ezeobi petitioned the Inspector General of Police, leading to formal charges against Duru. However, in a bizarre twist, Mrs. Ezeobi was arrested by the police on March 24, 2025, without prior notice or summons. She was detained at the Nigeria Police Zonal Headquarters (Zone 13) in Ukpo, Anambra State.

Tragically, Mrs. Ezeobi’s death in police custody has raised suspicions of foul play and police complicity in the land scam. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for justice, with many demanding accountability from the Nigerian police force.

This disturbing incident highlights the need for greater transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies. It also underscores the importance of protecting whistleblowers and ensuring that those who report crimes are not victimized or silenced.
