PenCom Issues Alert: Beware of Fake Job Offers Claiming to Be From the National Pension Commission
The National Pension Commission (PenCom) is warning Nigerians about a surge in recruitment scams where fraudsters pose as PenCom officials to steal personal information from job seekers.
Scammers are contacting people through WhatsApp, email, and phone calls, promising jobs at PenCom. To create panic, they often claim there’s a “48-hour deadline” to apply. Victims are then told to send sensitive documents like ID cards, BVN, or personal records to a supposed “secretary” on WhatsApp. Some fraudsters even impersonate the PenCom Director-General to appear legitimate. The Commission does not recruit via WhatsApp or ask for confidential details through unofficial channels.
Delete suspicious WhatsApp messages or emails immediately.
Avoid forwarding these messages to friends or family. It helps scammers reach more people.
Confirm any PenCom job vacancy only through its official website `www.pencom.gov.ng` or verified social media handle Fraud Crackdown Continues
This warning comes as regulators step up efforts against financial fraud. The Securities and Exchange Commission recently shut down over 400 fake investment schemes targeting Nigerians.
Despite these threats, Nigeria’s pension industry remains strong. PenCom reported that total pension assets hit ₦29.43 trillion as of February 2026, driven by steady contributions and solid investment returns.
Job hunting is stressful enough without scammers in the mix. If an offer sounds urgent, asks for documents via WhatsApp, or comes from a random number, pause. Legitimate government recruitment follows due process and never demands personal data through chat apps.
Stay sharp, protect your info, and spread the word so others don’t fall victim.
