NLC Slams Federal Government Over Latest Electricity Tariff Hike
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is up in arms over the recent increase in electricity tariff for Band A customers, branding it as “impunity” and “arrogance.” The tariff hike, which went from N206.80/KWh to N209.5/KWh, has sparked outrage among consumers and businesses alike.
NLC President Joe Ajaero accused the Federal Government of insensitivity and insincerity, demanding an immediate reversal of the hike. He pointed out that the increase would only lead to more companies shutting down and consumers struggling to make ends meet.
Ajaero recalled the government’s promise to address the tariff hike during the recent national strike, only to renege on their word. Instead, they approved another tariff hike, which the NLC sees as a betrayal.
The NLC had previously protested the 250% tariff hike, which led to widespread outrage and the shutdown of over 300 businesses. The latest increase only adds insult to injury, and the NLC is demanding action.
As the cost of living continues to rise, the NLC is calling on the government to prioritize the welfare of citizens and businesses. The reversal of the tariff hike is a necessary step towards restoring trust and stability in the economy.
The ball is now in the government’s court. Will they listen to the voices of the people and reverse the hike, or will they continue down a path that favors only a select few? Only time will tell.
