Nigerian University Unions Reject Allowance Sharing Formula
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have rejected the proposed sharing formula for the N50 billion earned allowances approved by the Federal Government.
In a joint statement, the unions’ presidents, Muhammed Ibrahim (SSANU) and Peters Adeyemi (NASU), condemned the distribution method, describing it as “grossly unfair” and “totally unacceptable.” The unions are demanding an immediate review of the sharing formula.
The rejection of the sharing formula by the unions could lead to further negotiations with the government. The unions’ concerns highlight the need for a more equitable distribution of the allowances.
The unions’ demand for a review of the sharing formula may lead to a resolution that addresses their concerns. The outcome will likely have implications for the university staff and the broader education sector.
