NDLEA Destroys 1.6 Million Kilograms of Illicit Drugs in Historic Operation
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking, destroying a staggering 1.6 million kilograms of assorted illicit substances seized across Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states. This monumental destruction marks the largest volume of seizures to be set ablaze at one time in the agency’s history .
Drugs Destroyed
The destroyed substances include
123 kilograms of cocaine
A highly addictive stimulant with severe health implications
– 46.8 kilograms of heroin: A potent opioid responsible for countless overdoses and addiction cases
– 1.4 million kilograms of cannabis: One of the most widely abused substances globally
148,000 kilograms of codeine syrup Amedication often abused for its opioid-like effects
– 3,244.26 kilograms of tramadol: A prescription painkiller with potential for abuse 1,544 kilograms of skuchiesA synthetic substance with unpredictable effects
111 kilograms of methamphetamine

Significance of the Operation
The NDLEA’s operation
demonstrates its unwavering commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in Nigeria. According to NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, “The sheer volume of seizures serves as a reminder of the grave danger these substances pose to public health until they are completely and irreversibly destroyed”. This destruction sends a strong message to drug barons that their activities will not be tolerated under the current administration .
