Nationwide Protest Looms in Nigeria: Take-It-Back Movement Takes a Stand

Nigeria is bracing itself for a nationwide protest on April 7, 2025, as the Take-It-Back movement rallies against the government’s “emergency rule” in Rivers State and the alleged misuse of the Cybercrime Act. The movement, which organized the 2024 #EndBadGovernance protest, is urging supporters to gather at the National Assembly in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

At the heart of the protest is the demand for the repeal of the Cybercrime Act, which the movement believes is being used to suppress free speech. Juwon Sanyaolu, the National Coordinator of the Take-It-Back movement, emphasized that the act is targeting journalists, activists, and social media influencers, including individuals like SeaKing .

The protesters are also calling for an end to the emergency rule in Rivers State, which they describe as “military rule imposed by the government of President Bola Tinubu.” They demand a reversal of this action and the full reinstatement of all suspended government bodies, including the State House of Assembly and the Executive.

Key Demands:

Repeal of the Cybercrime Act

To prevent the suppression of free speech and protect journalists, activists, and social media influencers.

End to Emergency Rule

To reverse the military rule imposed by the government in Rivers State and reinstate suspended government bodies.

Good Governance

To address the considerable hardship caused by President Tinubu’s policies and ensure that the government prioritizes the welfare of its citizens.

The Take-It-Back movement is clear that this is a nationwide protest, with additional locations to be announced soon. As Nigeria prepares for this massive demonstration, one thing is certain: the people will not remain silent in the face of bad governance.
