“NASU and SSANU Set to Embark on Nationwide Protest Over Unpaid Salaries and Grievances”
The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) have announced a nationwide protest scheduled for Tuesday, July 9, 2024. This decision comes after a breakdown in dialogue with the Ministers of Education and Labour.
The protest, which will take place across various states and culminate in a national protest in Abuja on July 18, aims to address the non-payment of four months’ salaries and other outstanding grievances. Despite meetings with government officials, no concrete commitments have been made to resolve these issues.
The unions have directed all branches to hold mandatory general meetings on Monday, July 8, to sensitize members and mobilize the press and media for support. A national strike action will be announced soon, pending the outcome of the protests.
