Lagos Government Sticks to Ban on Unregulated Commercial Buses from October 1

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its decision to ban all unregulated commercial bus operations, popularly known as “Danfos” and “Koropes,” along the Lekki-Epe corridor starting from October 1, 2024. This move is part of the state’s Strategic Transportation Master Plan to improve the commuting experience for residents.

According to the State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, the current state of bus operations on the corridor is chaotic and requires collaboration from Public Transport Bus Operators to successfully regulate and integrate the informal transport sector into the State’s Bus Reform Initiative.

The government has already held a stakeholders meeting with bus operators and union leaders to ensure compliance before the deadline. The ban aims to restructure the commercial bus operations and provide a better commuting experience for residents along the Lekki-Epe corridor.

This move is a significant step towards achieving a more organized and efficient transportation system in Lagos State. By banning unregulated commercial buses, the government can reduce chaos on the roads, improve safety, and provide a more comfortable and reliable transportation experience for residents.
