Femi Falana Slams Nigerian Government Over Workers’ Rights and Fund Diversion

Prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana has accused the Nigerian government of grossly violating workers’ rights and diverting public funds meant for the poor. In a statement released to commemorate Workers’ Day, Falana condemned the government’s actions, describing them as “criminal diversion” of funds.

Falana has called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to take urgent action to enforce the country’s labour and welfare laws. He emphasized the need for the labour unions to protect workers’ rights and ensure that the government is held accountable for its actions.

Falana accused the ruling elite of systematically looting public funds and abandoning Nigeria’s most vulnerable citizens. He warned that the nation’s economy has been turned into a playground for self-enrichment, while millions of Nigerians suffer.

The human rights lawyer highlighted the issue of public enterprises being sold and oil blocks being awarded to those in power, further exacerbating the country’s economic woes. Falana’s statement serves as a stark reminder of the need for transparency and accountability in governance.

As Nigerians celebrate Workers’ Day, Falana’s statement is a call to action for the government to prioritize workers’ rights and the welfare of its citizens. The labour unions must take a strong stance to protect workers and ensure that the government is held accountable for its actions. Only then can Nigeria begin to address its economic challenges and provide a better future for its citizens.
