Federal Government Clears N3.9 Billion Pension Backlog for 91,146 Retirees

The Federal Government has taken a significant step towards improving the welfare of pensioners by disbursing N3.9 billion in arrears to 91,146 eligible retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS). This payment, facilitated by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), is part of the N32,000 pension increment approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The payments were made across various pension departments, including
Parastatals Pension Department: N1.9 billion to 59,865 pensioners
Civil Service Pensioners: N830 million to 12,976 pensioners
Police Pensioners: N620 million to 9,689 pensioners
Customs, Immigration, and Prisons : N551 million to 8,616 pensioners

PTAD’s Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, emphasized the Federal Government’s dedication to settling arrears and improving pensioners’ welfare. She stated that the completion of this payment demonstrates the administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ensuring timely and consistent payment of pensions across all departments .

This development is expected to bring relief to many retirees who have been waiting for their pension payments. The government’s efforts to clear pension backlogs and increase pension amounts are crucial steps towards improving the lives of pensioners and promoting their welfare.
