ECOWAS Stands by Nigeria, Dismisses Niger’s Terrorism Allegations

Niger Republic had accused Nigeria and other ECOWAS members of colluding with France to destabilize the country. However, ECOWAS swiftly denied these allegations, emphasizing Nigeria’s long-standing contributions to peace and security in the region.

The country has played a key role in the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), which has achieved significant successes in combating terrorism in the region. ECOWAS highlighted Nigeria’s generosity and commitment to peace, stating that it is implausible for the country to sponsor terrorism.

ECOWAS urged all states in the region to promote dialogue and stability, refraining from making unsubstantiated accusations. The organization emphasized the importance of working together to maintain peace and security in West Africa.

In a separate statement, the Federal Government of Nigeria also denied Niger Republic’s allegations, labeling them as “imaginary” and reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to peaceful relations with its neighbors
