DStv Subscribers in Limbo: 12 Channels at Risk of Being Dropped
MultiChoice has warned DStv subscribers that they may lose access to 12 major Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) channels, including CNN, Discovery Channel, TLC, and Cartoon Network, starting January 1, 2026. The channels are at risk due to ongoing negotiations between MultiChoice and WBD over a new distribution agreement

The current carriage deal between MultiChoice and WBD is set to expire on December 31, 2025, and negotiations to renew the contract have yet to reach a conclusion. If no agreement is reached, the channels may be dropped from DStv’s lineup
This development comes at a difficult time for MultiChoice, which has experienced significant subscriber losses in recent years. The broadcaster has shed 2.8 million active linear subscribers over the last two financial years, including 1.2 million customers lost in 2025 alone. In Nigeria, MultiChoice has lost 1.4 million subscribers over the past two years, largely due to repeated subscription price increases
MultiChoice has assured subscribers that it is preparing to strengthen its entertainment offerings for 2026, promising alternative channels and content across sports, news, lifestyle, kids, and documentaries. DStv will also lose additional content in the coming months, including BET Africa and MTV Base, which will be discontinued by Paramount Africa from January 1, 2026. CBS Reality and CBS Justice will cease operations on December 31, 2025 .
