Tension has gripped the family of Chief Bayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and APC governorship aspirant in Oyo State, after armed men abducted his younger sister and her two children in Ibadan on Wednesday morning, June 3, 2026.
The development was confirmed in an official statement by Femi Awogboro, media aide to Adelabu.
What Happened in Ibadan This Morning
According to the family statement, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, 43, was intercepted by gunmen around 7:30 a.m. while driving to drop her twin sons at school.

The abductors reportedly forced all three into a vehicle before escaping the area. Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. She retired voluntarily last year and had recently relocated to Ibadan with her children to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who is based in the United States.
Family and Security Response
Adelabu’s family said security and law enforcement agencies were notified immediately after the incident was reported.
“We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest,” the statement read. “Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this heinous crime.”
Chief Adebayo Adelabu and the entire Adelabu family said they are “deeply distressed by this tragic development but remain hopeful and confident in the capacity of the security agencies to secure the safe release of Mrs. John-Paul and her children.”
