Akwa Ibom Unplugged: A 32-Day Celebration of Culture, Music, and Tourism

The Akwa Ibom State government has officially kicked off the 2025 Christmas Unplugged festival, a 32-day celebration of music, culture, and community engagement. Governor Umo Eno declared that tourism is the “new middle name” of Akwa Ibom, emphasizing the state’s commitment to developing its tourism potential .

The festival will feature cultural displays, musical performances, and comedy shows, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Akwa Ibom State’s 31 local government areas. Each day will have a unique theme, with local government contingents dressed in their traditional attire, showcasing their culture and traditions .

The governor highlighted the state’s recent achievements, including the designation of the Victor Attah Airport as an international airport and the launch of Ibom Air, which will facilitate travel and boost tourism. He invited residents and visitors to take advantage of the season and experience the state’s rich culture, cuisine, and beautiful beaches

The festival is a collaborative effort between the state government, local government chairmen, and stakeholders, with adequate preparations made for security, medical response, and logistics. The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Udeme Otong, commended the governor’s tourism drive, saying it would engage youths and support economic activity

The 32-day celebration promises to be an exciting experience, with:

– Cultural festivals featuring Igbo, Yoruba, and AREWA communities
– Musical performances and comedy shows
– Competitions, including Twins’ Day and Mr. & Miss Christmas Village
– Hangouts with festive activities, music, and artisan showcases
