Abuja Landowners Given Two-Week Ultimatum to Settle Outstanding Bills

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a two-week ultimatum to 762 landowners in Abuja to pay their outstanding bills for Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) or risk losing their plots. This directive comes after a list of 3,273 allottees with unpaid C-of-O fees was published on October 5, 2024, with 2,511 complying and 762 defaulting ¹.

The affected landowners, located in Maitama II District, Cadastral Zone, A10, Abuja, have until January 3, 2025, to settle their bills. Failure to comply will result in the withdrawal of their Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) titles under Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978.

Wike emphasized that the government’s primary goal is not to revoke land allocations but to ensure landowners make necessary payments. This move aims to promote accountability and transparency in land administration within the FCT.
