AAC Party Raises Concerns Over INEC’s Preparedness for FCT Council Elections
The African Action Congress (AAC) has expressed disappointment and concern over the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) lack of preparedness for the upcoming Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections. The party highlighted the need for clarity and structure in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process.
INEC’s failure to provide clear guidance on the CVR process has caused confusion among voters and stakeholders.
Tens of thousands of young Nigerians who have turned 18 are at risk of being disenfranchised if immediate steps are not taken to reopen voter registration and streamline electoral processes.
The AAC FCT chapter noted that reports of a May 27 restart of CVR were later denied by INEC, adding to the confusion. The party urged INEC to take immediate action to address these issues and ensure a smooth electoral process.
The AAC’s concerns over INEC’s preparedness for the FCT Council elections highlight the need for timely and effective action to ensure the integrity of the electoral process. By addressing these issues, INEC can help ensure that all eligible voters can participate in the elections.
