Empowering Nigerians: FG Launches Free Financial Literacy Program for 10 Million Citizens
The Federal Government has launched a groundbreaking initiative to provide free financial literacy training to 10 million Nigerians. The program, organized by the Office of the Vice-President through the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion (PreCEFI), aims to equip citizens with essential financial skills, investment knowledge, and digital competencies for sustainable wealth creation .
Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized that the program is a strategic national investment in capacity building, which is essential for inclusive growth and development. He noted that Nigeria can only reap the benefits of its demographic dividend if young Nigerians and women are equipped with the skills and ethical grounding needed for a rapidly advancing digital economy .
The program will include:
– Training and capacity building for Nigerians on financial literacy and inclusion
– Digital skills development and empowerment
– Policy dialogue and advocacy for financial inclusion
– Support for small and medium practitioners
– Structured mechanism for joint training programs and professional standards

The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with six professional bodies to jointly design the program, certification pathways, digital skills initiatives, and mentorship platforms. The partner bodies include:
– Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN)
– Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN)
– Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS)
– National Institute of Credit Administration (NICA)
– Chartered Risk Management Institute (CRMI)
– Nigerian Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NIIE)
The program is expected to have a significant impact on Nigeria’s economic development by:
