SERAP Demands Transparency in ₦18.6 Billion NASS Project Funds
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, to account for ₦18.6 billion allegedly missing from the National Assembly Commission Office Complex project.
According to SERAP, the contract was awarded without following due process, and the National Assembly failed to conduct a needs assessment, publish advertisements, or obtain bidders’ quotations before awarding the contract. The organization is urging Akpabio and Abbas to disclose the name of the company that received the funds, including its directors, shareholders, and registered address.
SERAP wants the names of the company, its directors, shareholders, and registered address made public.
The organization demands to know why the contract was awarded without following due process.SERAP believes that transparency in this matter would help rebuild public trust in the National Assembly.
The 2022 annual report by the Auditor-General of the Federation revealed that .
– The contract was awarded without Federal Executive Council approval.
– No Certificate of No Objection was obtained from the Bureau of Public Procurement.
SERAP’s demands aim to promote accountability and transparency in the use of public funds.
