Hilda Baci Sets New Guinness World Record for Largest Serving of Jollof Rice
Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has once again made history by setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing a staggering 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lb 9 oz). This achievement was made possible through her partnership with Gino, a leading food brand in Nigeria.
The record-breaking attempt took place on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, drawing massive attention from supporters, celebrities, and food lovers. The event was filled with music, dance, and celebration, creating a carnival-like atmosphere. Notable attendees included actress Funke Akindele, who joined Baci to stir the steaming tomato base, and the First Lady of Ogun State, Bamidele Abiodun .
To achieve this record, Baci used a specially designed pot with a capacity of 22,619 litres, aiming to fill it up to 80% with jollof rice. The cooking process took nine hours and 1,200 kg of gas to produce 16,600 plates of jollof rice, which were served to attendees under strict conditions to ensure no food went to waste. Baci’s team used 4,000 kg of washed basmati rice, 164 kg of fresh goat meat, 220 kg of Gino Asun and Peppered Chicken Cubes, and 600 kg of her signature jollof pepper mix .
This achievement not only solidifies Baci’s reputation as a culinary star but also brings global attention to Nigerian cuisine. The event showcased the cultural pride attached to jollof rice, a beloved dish in West Africa. Baci’s record-breaking attempt was more than just about cooking; it was about cementing Nigeria’s place in the culinary rivalry with Ghana over whose version of jollof rice reigns supreme .
This record marks Baci’s second Guinness World Record, following her achievement in 2023 for the longest cooking marathon. Her dedication to her craft and her ability to inspire young Nigerians to explore culinary arts as a career have made her a national figure and international sensation. With this latest feat, Baci continues to blaze a trail in the culinary world, using food as a unifying force for culture, pride, and national identity.
