Woman Sentenced to One Year Imprisonment for Trafficking Tramadol
A 50-year-old woman, Halima Abdulahi, has been sentenced to one year imprisonment or a fine of N500,000 for unlawful possession of Tramadol. The Federal High Court in Lagos convicted her after she pleaded guilty to a count charge filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Halima was arrested on October 2, 2025, at the ECOWAS border post in Seme, Lagos State, with 50 packets of Tramadol weighing 4.6 kilograms and valued at N400,000. During her arraignment, she pleaded guilty to the charge, and the prosecution reviewed the facts of the case, tendering relevant exhibits in evidence.
The defense counsel, Mrs. Vivian Ekwegh, pleaded for leniency, citing Halima’s remorse and ignorance of the law. Ekwegh described Halima as a first-time offender who had saved the court’s time by pleading guilty.
Justice Ibrahim Kala sentenced Halima to one year imprisonment with an option of a N500,000 fine. The judge also directed her to serve 30 days of community service. This case highlights the NDLEA’s efforts to combat drug trafficking in Nigeria and the consequences of engaging in such activities .
