Wike Tells Amaechi: You Won’t Return to Power

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi over his alliance with the opposition coalition to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election. Wike’s remarks were made during the commissioning of the rehabilitated Aguma Palace Road and the New Market Road in the Gwagwalada Area Council.

Wike accused Amaechi of being driven by anger and a desire to return to power, stating that he won’t succeed. “Because you have left office, you are angry. You said Nigerians are angry. You want to come back to power; you won’t come back,” Wike said. He also challenged Amaechi to show his scorecards, questioning his credibility and ability to lead.

Amaechi had expressed interest in running for the presidency on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform, stating his willingness to serve for one term of four years. His decision to join the opposition coalition has sparked controversy, with Wike’s remarks highlighting the divisions within the political landscape.

The exchange between Wike and Amaechi underscores the intense political rivalry and jockeying for power in Nigeria. As the 2027 election approaches, the political landscape is expected to become increasingly charged, with various actors vying for position and influence.

The confrontation between Wike and Amaechi highlights the complexities and challenges of Nigerian politics. As the country navigates its democratic journey, the actions and decisions of its leaders will have far-reaching implications for the nation’s future.
