Victor Osimhen’s Injury Forces Absence from CAF Awards

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen will miss the 2025 CAF Awards in Rabat, Morocco, due to a hamstring injury sustained during international duty with Nigeria. Osimhen was withdrawn at halftime in Nigeria’s loss to DR Congo in the 2026 World Cup African play-offs final on Sunday .

The 27-year-old striker is currently shortlisted for the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award, alongside Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi. Osimhen won the award in 2023 and is seeking to claim it for the second time .

Despite the injury setback, Osimhen has had a remarkable season with Galatasaray, scoring 37 goals in 41 appearances and helping the team secure a domestic double. He also led the Turkish Super Lig with 26 goals, winning the Golden Boot award .

 

Osimhen faces stiff competition from Salah, who guided Liverpool to the Premier League title, and Hakimi, who played a pivotal role in PSG’s historic treble. The winner of the CAF Player of the Year award will be announced at the ceremony in Rabat, Morocco
