Unlocking Nigeria’s Potential: The Power of Digital Skills
President Bola Tinubu has emphasized that Nigeria’s most valuable resource is not oil or minerals, but the creativity, determination, and potential of its people. Speaking about the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, Tinubu highlighted the importance of investing in digital skills to drive growth and development across various sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, finance, and education .
The 3MTT programme has made significant progress since its inception, with over 1.8 million applications drawn from every local government area in Nigeria. The programme has created jobs, formed start-ups, and developed solutions across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, ensuring that opportunities are no longer confined to major cities .
Tinubu praised the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy for stewarding the programme and acknowledged the private sector and development partners who have backed the effort. The private sector partners include IHS Towers, MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Google, Microsoft, Huawei, Moniepoint, UNDP, and the European Union .
While celebrating the progress made so far, Tinubu emphasized the need for scale and continuity. He stressed that achieving the vision of digital and technical skills transformation across the country requires continued collaboration and shared commitment from government, industry, and the development community .
Tinubu assured young Nigerians that initiatives like 3MTT are building genuine platforms for progress, not ceremonial commitments. He pledged that the government remains fully committed to the growth and expansion of the programme, which is restoring confidence among young people that they have a place in the global digital economy and a future they can shape with their own skills .
The President’s emphasis on digital skills development is a step in the right direction towards unlocking Nigeria’s potential. As the programme continues to grow and expand, it is expected to have a significant impact on the country’s economy and development. With the right investments and partnerships, Nigeria can become a hub for digital innovation and talent, providing opportunities for its citizens to thrive in the global digital economy.
