Nigerian Troops Crush Boko Haram Terrorists in Borno, Recover N5M and Rescue Hostages
In a significant victory against terrorism, Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully neutralized nine Boko Haram insurgents during a series of high-impact operations in Borno State. These missions, carried out in the Magumeri and Gajiram regions, also led to the recovery of over ,₦5 million in ransom money. and the rescue of two kidnapped civilians.
According to Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Officer of the Joint Task Force for Operation Hadin Kai, troops launched a precision fighting patrol on October 10, 2025, following credible intelligence on terrorist movement near Goni Dunari in Magumeri Local Government Area.
The terrorists, spotted moving in two vehicles with 24 foot soldiers, were reportedly setting homes on fire and terrorizing locals. Responding swiftly, Nigerian forces intercepted the attackers and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. The operation extended over 92 kilometers in pursuit of the fleeing insurgents.
After four hours of tactical maneuvering, troops caught up with the enemy and launched a direct assault. The result: five terrorists were neutralized , with several others injured, as indicated by blood trails found at the scene.
Weapons and items recovered from the clash included:
* An AK-47 rifle (Reg. No. 06798)
* Five magazines (2 loaded, 3 empty)
* Thirty-one rounds of 7.62mm ammunition
* One Itel mobile phone
* A dagger
In a separate but equally successful operation, troops patrolling the Gajiram–Bolori–Mile 40–Gajiganna route intercepted another group of Boko Haram fighters near Zundur village. During the engagement, four more terrorists were taken down, while the rest fled into the surrounding bushland.
More importantly, the military rescued two hostages —Modu Kinnami (55) and Bukar (57), both residents of Guzamala. The victims revealed that the terrorists had demanded a ransom of ₦2 million and two Tecno button phones for the release of a relative.
From this raid, troops recovered:
* A blue pickup truck (Reg No: GUB 327 XA)
* Two brand new Tecno phones
* A jerrycan filled with 30 liters of petrol (PMS)
* A sum of ₦4,355,000 ,suspected to be part of ransom payments
What stands out in both operations is the fact that no casualties or equipment losses were recorded by the Nigerian forces. These successful missions are part of a broader counter-terrorism strategy aimed at sustaining pressure on terrorist cells and limiting their freedom of movement in the North East.
According to Lt. Col. Uba, further operations are already underway across multiple fronts to keep insurgent groups on the back foot.
These victories mark a promising step forward in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism. Beyond the number of terrorists neutralized, the safe recovery of kidnapped citizens and seizure of ransom funds sends a strong signal that the Nigerian military remains committed, capable, and vigilant.
