Tragedy Strikes NYSC Prospective Corps Members in Gombe State
A devastating road accident has claimed the lives of 16 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Ondo State, while en route to the NYSC orientation camp in Gombe State. Two other students are fighting for their lives in the hospital
The accident occurred when the 18-seater bus conveying the graduates veered off the road, resulting in a fatal crash. The victims, all graduates of AFUED, were said to be full of hope and excitement as they embarked on their journey to begin their national service .
The Gombe State NYSC office has expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and assured that all necessary support would be provided to the affected corps members and their families. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident .
The incident has reignited national concerns over road safety, especially for young graduates mobilized to distant places of primary assignment (PPA) by NYSC. Many Nigerians are calling for stricter safety measures to be put in place to ensure that prospective corps members can travel securely to orientation camps
