Tragedy in Texas: Mother Arrested for Daughter’s Death in Hot Car

A heart-wrenching incident has unfolded in Texas, where a 36-year-old Nigerian woman, Gbemisola Akayinode, has been arrested and charged with felony murder in connection with the death of her 9-year-old daughter, Oluwasikemi. The child tragically died of hyperthermia after being left inside a car for several hours in sweltering heat.

 

According to reports, the incident occurred on July 1 at an industrial complex on Mayo Shell Road in Galena Park, near Houston. The Harris County Sheriff, Ed Gonzalez, stated that detectives responded to a call and found the child unattended inside a vehicle. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Oluwasikemi was pronounced dead.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences ruled the child’s death a homicide, and Gbemisola Akayinode was subsequently arrested and charged with felony murder. Court documents revealed that Oluwasikemi died after being left in the vehicle for over eight hours on a 99-degree day while her mother was at work at a nearby manufacturing plant.
