Tragedy in Benue: JSS3 Student Kills Teacher Over Seized Cap

A disturbing incident has occurred in Benue State, Nigeria, where a 16-year-old Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) student allegedly beat his teacher to death over a seized school cap. The incident happened on Thursday, July 10, 2025, in Oju Local Government Area of the state.

The student, identified as Friday Ogamude, confronted his teacher, Mr. Oyibe Oyibe, aged 35, over a cap that had been confiscated since May 2025. The confrontation quickly escalated, and the student allegedly struck the teacher during a heated exchange, causing him to slump and collapse on the spot. Despite being rushed to Amara Hospital, Oju, the teacher was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police have arrested the suspect and condemned the act, assuring the public that justice will be served. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the General Hospital, Oju, for autopsy, while investigations into the incident are ongoing .
