Terrorist Attack on Catholic School in Niger State: A Growing Concern

A recent terrorist attack on St. Mary’s School, a Catholic institution in Papiri community, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, has left many students and staff abducted. The incident occurred on Thursday night, November 20, 2025, between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m.

According to sources, the terrorists stormed the school, abducting an unconfirmed number of students and staff. The actual number of abducted individuals is yet to be determined, as authorities continue their assessment

The Head of Department, Disaster and Relief, Agwara Local Government, Ahmed Abdullahi Rofia, confirmed the attack via telephone. A source from one of the Catholic churches in Niger State also confirmed the incident, noting that the school was still compiling its records

This incident comes just days after a similar attack in Maga, Kebbi State, where 25 students were kidnapped. The recent attacks have heightened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in educational institutions across the region

President Bola Tinubu has cancelled his trips to South Africa and Angola to coordinate the response to the insecurity in the country
