Super Eagles Squad Announced: Boniface Left Out, Osimhen and Chukwueze Make the Cut

The Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, has named the final squad for Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa. Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface was surprisingly omitted from the squad, while regulars like Victor Osimhen, William Troost-Ekong, and Samuel Chukwueze made the cut.

The Super Eagles face an uphill task in their quest to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. With only seven points from six games, they currently sit fourth in the Group B log and need to win all their remaining games to stand a chance of qualifying.

Chelle has included three new players in the squad: Felix Agu, Benjamin Fredericks, and Christantus Uche, who impressed during the Unity Cup earlier this year.

Here’s the full list of players invited for the Rwanda and South Africa games:

– Goalkeepers: Stanley Nwabili, Amas Obasogie, and Adeleye Adebayo
– Defenders: William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Bruno Onyemaechi, Chidozie Awaziem, Felix Agu, and Benjamin Fredericks
– Midfielders: Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, Wilfred Ndidi, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Raphael Onyedika, and Christantus Uche
– Forwards: Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, Cyriel Dessers, and Tolu Arokodare

Nigeria will face Rwanda on September 6 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, and then travel to South Africa to face the Bafana Bafana on September 9, 2025.

What do you think about the Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup? Will the team be able to overcome their challenges and make it to the tournament?
