Strengthening Security in Cross River State: A Collaborative Approach
The Director General of BORDERCOMM, Onun Hon. Ngim Okpo, recently hosted the Director General of Homeland Security (South), Chief Michael Nsan, and his team to discuss measures to enhance security in Cross River State’s border areas. The meeting aimed to fortify security and safety measures in the state.
The meeting was prompted by growing security concerns in the region, particularly from the Benue State border. Onun Hon. Okpo emphasized the state governor’s commitment to ensuring the utmost safety of all Cross River residents.
To promote security in the region, Onun Hon. Okpo proposed the establishment of robust security checkpoints in flashpoint border areas, the University of Calabar waterway, and the Calabar Estuary. The partnership aims to birth community-driven security models, periodic workshops on emergency preparedness, crisis management, and viable communication with interventionist agencies of government.
Chief Michael Nsan stressed the importance of community involvement in effective security management. He advocated for more stringent checks and awareness among citizens to recognize and report suspicious activities.
The meeting ended on an optimistic note, with both parties acknowledging that a well-coordinated response can drastically enhance safety. Their shared vision emphasizes that security is a collective effort that incorporates the active participation of every citizen. By working together, Cross River State can create a safer environment for its residents.
