Six Chinese Nationals Convicted of Cyber-Terrorism and Internet Fraud in Lagos

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced six Chinese nationals to one year in prison for cyber-terrorism and internet fraud. The convicts, part of a larger syndicate of 792 suspected cryptocurrency investment and romance fraud suspects, were apprehended during a sting operation known as the “Eagle Flush Operation” in December 2024.

The defendants were arraigned on separate count charges of cyber-terrorism and internet fraud in February 2025. They initially pleaded not guilty but later changed their plea to guilty during the June 23, 2025, sitting.

The court found the defendants guilty and sentenced them to one year in prison, starting from the date of their arrest, along with a N1,000,000 fine per defendant. The court also ordered the forfeiture of their mobile phones, computers, laptops, and routers to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The conviction of these six Chinese nationals highlights the ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime and internet fraud in Nigeria. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) continues to work tirelessly to ensure that those who engage in such activities face the full weight of the law.
