“Senate President Akpabio Withdraws Defamation Suits: A New Year of Peace and Reconciliation?”
In a surprise move, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has directed his lawyers to withdraw all ongoing defamation lawsuits against several individuals. This decision comes after Akpabio was moved by counsel during a New Year Mass at the Sacred Heart Parish in Uyo.
Akpabio had filed nearly nine lawsuits against individuals he accused of defaming him, including a high-profile case against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. However, after listening to the priest’s sermon, Akpabio realized that it was time to let go of the lawsuits and move forward. He stated, “I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me, who slandered my name. But I listened to the priest and suddenly realised he was talking to me, so I hereby direct my solicitor to withdraw all lawsuits against them.
This decision marks a significant development in Akpabio’s ongoing feud with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who had accused him of sexual harassment and influencing her suspension from the Senate. While Akpabio has denied the allegations, the withdrawal of the lawsuits suggests a willingness to put the past behind him and move forward.
Akpabio’s decision to withdraw the lawsuits may be seen as a sign of strength and a commitment to peace and reconciliation. As the Senate President, Akpabio’s actions set an example for others to follow. This development may also help to reduce tensions and promote a more cordial atmosphere in the Senate.
