Real Madrid Parts Ways with Xabi Alonso: A New Era for Los Blancos

In a shocking move, Real Madrid has sacked Xabi Alonso as their manager, just 24 hours after their 3-2 loss to Barcelona in the SuperCopa final. The decision, made by mutual agreement, marks the end of Alonso’s tenure as the team’s first-team coach .

Alonso, a legendary midfielder who played for Real Madrid from 2009 to 2014, had been under pressure due to the team’s struggles in LaLiga and the Champions League. Despite his impressive resume, which includes a Bundesliga title and a Europa League runner-up finish with Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso’s time at Real Madrid was marked by inconsistent results .

Following Alonso’s departure, Real Madrid has appointed Alvaro Arbeloa as the new head coach. Arbeloa, a former defender who played for Real Madrid from 2009 to 2016, has been coaching the club’s B team, Castilla, since June 2025. He has a strong track record, having led the Juvenil A team to the treble in the 2022-2023 season .

The club’s decision to part ways with Alonso comes two days before their next fixture, a Round of 16 clash in the Copa del Rey against Albacete. With Real Madrid currently second in LaLiga and seventh in the Champions League, the team will be looking to regroup and refocus under their new leadership.

As Real Madrid embarks on this new chapter, fans will be eager to see how Arbeloa’s appointment affects the team’s performance. Will he be able to turn things around and bring success to Los Blancos?
