“Peter Obi Defects to ADC, Calls for Broad National Coalition to Rescue Nigeria”

In a shocking move, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing the need for a broad national coalition to rescue Nigeria from poverty, disunity, and democratic decline. Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, made the announcement at the Nike Lake Resort in Enugu, where he delivered a New Year address.

Obi’s defection is not just a change of party, but a call to action for Nigerians and opposition forces to unite against the current government’s perceived failures. He emphasized that Nigeria has reached a critical turning point and can no longer afford politics of division. According to Obi, “History will not forgive silence in moments of national peril.”

Obi painted a grim picture of Nigeria’s current state, citing widespread poverty, unemployment, and insecurity. He noted that over 130 million Nigerians live in multidimensional poverty, and more than 80 million youths are unemployed. Obi attributed these challenges to leadership failure, stating that “Nigeria is looted into poverty” and that “the system is rigged to reward mediocrity and recycle failure.”

Obi’s defection is a wake-up call to fellow Nigerians to demand better leadership and accountability. He urged opposition leaders to join him in the ADC, saying, “I now respectfully call on my political associates, the Obidient Movement and opposition leaders across the country to join this broad national coalition under the African Democratic Congress.”

As Obi begins this new chapter in his political journey, Nigerians will be watching to see how his defection to the ADC will impact the country’s politics. Will his call for a broad national coalition resonate with Nigerians, or will it be seen as just another political maneuver?
