Nnamdi Kanu Sues Nigerian Medical Association for N550 Million Over Alleged Fake Medical Report

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a N550 million lawsuit against the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and 10 medical practitioners. The suit, filed at the FCT High Court in Abuja, accuses the defendants of issuing a falsified medical report against him.

According to Kanu’s lawyers, the NMA and the medical practitioners failed to conduct a thorough medical examination as ordered by the court. Instead, they allegedly based their report on “informal meetings” with Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja. The report, dated October 13, was presented in court, leaving Kanu’s defense team with no time to study or respond to it.

Barrister Maxwell Opara, one of Kanu’s lawyers, confirmed the development in a video posted on his Facebook page, stating that the suit was filed against the NMA and 10 medical doctors who allegedly conspired to issue a fake medical report. Kanu’s Special Counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, noted that the report’s timing was suspicious, coming long after the court’s directive and leaving the defense no opportunity to react.

Kanu’s trial has been ongoing, with his lawyers arguing that his health has deteriorated significantly while in DSS custody. The court had ordered the NMA to conduct an independent medical evaluation, but the association’s report has been disputed by Kanu’s team. The case has sparked controversy, with Kanu’s lawyers accusing the NMA of fabricating the report without conducting a thorough examination
