Nigeria’s Saboteurs: A Call to Action for the Government
Chief Wole Olanipekun, a renowned Nigerian lawyer and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has called on the Federal Government to name and shame individuals sabotaging the country’s interests. Speaking at the 29th edition of the Wole Olanipekun Scholarship Scheme and the sixth edition of the Wole Olanipekun Foundation Empowerment Programme, Olanipekun lamented that some Nigerians are actively working against the country’s interests, “waging war against Nigeria”
Olanipekun emphasized the need for humanists who genuinely love Nigeria and its citizens to overcome the prevailing strife, crises, wickedness, and selfishness. He urged privileged Nigerians to uplift the less fortunate, saying, “Let those who have received God’s benevolence in society encourage the downtrodden; let the mighty lift up the lowly”
The senior advocate also reiterated his call for regional federalism as the only viable solution to Nigeria’s problems. He believes that this system would allow regions to integrate properly and promote development. “What can save Nigeria today is regional federalism,” he said. “Through the regions, we can integrate properly”
Olanipekun urged the government to stop pretending not to know those working against the country’s interests and to name and shame them. “We don’t need any external intervention,” he said. “The way out is for the government to do the needful—to name the names”
Olanipekun’s call to action is a timely reminder of the need for the government to take bold steps to address the country’s problems. By naming and shaming saboteurs and promoting regional federalism, Nigeria can begin to heal and chart a new path for coexistence.
